Saint Andrew's Choir

Saint Andrew's Choir

The Saint Andrew’s Choir is an SATB group consisting of approximately 22 voices who sing at the 9.30am Sung Eucharist on three Sundays of each month, the occasional choral evensong and at special parish services and occasions.  Choir rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 7.30 to 9.00pm.

Besides singing at parish services the Choir is invited annually to sing evensong in the Cathedral and at a variety of other parishes.  Occasionally the Choir sings away in another centre and such weekends are very enjoyable for all the singers.

The Choir’s repertoire consists of music from plainsong, Anglican chant, 16th century through to specially commissioned works by living composers.

The choir is a member of the Royal School of Church Music and takes part in festivals and services.  Our director of Music is sometimes one of the festival directors.

The Choir has made three recordings;

Great Hymns for Seasons of the Church;

Volume One: “Tell out my Soul”

Volume Two: “King of Glory”

“Christmas from Saint Andrew’s Church”, Epsom

CDs are available from the Parish Administrator for $20.

The Choir is always looking for new recruits in all sections.  Ability to sing in tune, a good ear, and if a part singer the ability to read music is required.  Members are a friendly, social group, who take their music seriously but also have much fun together.

Please contact our Director of Music, Neil Shroff, if you would like to find out more about becoming a chorister.  He looks forward to talking with you.  Phone: 575 8874 or email: nesushroff@xtra.co.nz
